Starting a Nonprofit

To start and run a sucessful nonprofit, there are five powerful skills we need to boost our impact as a nonprofit creating social change. These skills are for nonprofits looking to take their organizations to the next level.  The skills are:                                                                               1. Test                                                                                                                                                             2.  Measure                                                                                                                                                   3.  Fundraise                                                                                                                                                 4.  Lead                                                                                                                                                           5.  Tell

Skill 1.  Testing our ideas.

Testing our ideas means getting proof that an idea or program will work before using it with our beneficiaries or seeking major funding. At any point in time, we may have dozens of ideas for how we can help our beneficiaries. However, in order to generate the best ideas and get funding, we need to know our ideas will work.

Therefore, our goal will be to develop an idea for a program and determine if it will be successful (without having to launch it as a full program). When we can prove our idea is effective, we are more likely to achieve our mission and attract more funding opportunities.

To help us develop effective ideas, we use a process called human-centered design (HCD). Let's get to know what this process is and how it works. We recommend the following three techniques to test our our ideas.                                                                                                 1. Use human-centered design                                                                                                             2. Gather insights from all the stakeholders involved in the project                                           3.  Create a culture where failure is an accepted part of a learning process.
